Fix Issue #848 (#849)

* Hotfix issue #848

We don't yet have the important Settings attribute in the View class on
this branch, so all parsed Views on a page come with default attributes!

Stub the stubs and get the fresh code with tests from current future for
a true fix.

* Tests for regression in issue #848

* Add hotfix commentary + PHP5.3 syntax fix

* Fix PHP5.4+ syntax

Sometimes this feels like Python 3 vs. Python 2
