Write adapter to support ActiveModelSerializers, other improvements.

Add test code for ActiveModelSerializers integration.
Allow fields to be excluded with the `except` parameter (configurable).
Remove triple-newline spacing, which did nothing but reveal my
Python/Django background.
Rename test api1->demo_api and api2->test_api to make their purpose more
clear. This will also prepare us or deploying the demo API to a Heroku
app in the future as part of the CI/CD pipeline.
