getDateFormatter works with 'Date' objects as well as date strings

When a date/datetime column is edited and is still dirty, the value
is a JavaScript 'Date' object until it is persisted/round-trip to the
server. The default renderer (generated via getDateFormatter) now
handles this case so it renders properly/consistently both before and
after its saved to the backend
