upon removal, if necessary merge radix tree nodes

before, removing an entry in a SearchableMap could cause the radix tree
to end up with a non-compressed path (a node with a single child). While
this was not affecting functionality, it would make the data structure
slightly less efficient if many entries are removed. This commit fixes
that.
