Improve the data clearing experience (#16)

* Change _init_empty_data to be a public method

the underscore prefix is interpreted by many editors to signify "private"
status. However, since this is a useful method, and since it's got a simple
API, it's worth exposing this.

* Override the canvas "clear" method

Now, the "unfinished" data gets deleted when canvas.clear() is called.

* Fix the width of the parent widget containerThis prevents the canvas from being stretched, and limits the entirewidget to the width of the canvas.

* Polygons have at least 3 points in testing

* Fix flakiness in numerical tests
