[readme,#15][l]: Update the README to match recent refactoring changes

* Update the TOC to add missing headings.
* Add a simple yet complete example showing how to use this package.
* Update the Reference section to point to the new methods that have
been created and/or renamed in the process of refactoring the package
before its first release on PyPi.
* Embed the Mermaid diagram so that readers can have a quick reference
directly from the README.
* Detail the process of installing, building and publishing the package
in the Developers section.
