Rounded up a number of small changes. Mostly documentation and formatting.

A number of those changes were suggested by the linter.

- Removed a redundant semicolon.
- Added comments and notes.
- Wrapped lines longer than 120 characters.
- Added underscores to 2 integer literals to make them more readable.
- Changed a tab character in the middle of a line to a space.
- Removed some trailing whitespace.
- Replaced an equality (==) with an identity (is) operator to better account for
  `null` values.
- Made two variables immutable.
