Fix some packaging oversights

GitHub issue #2 points out that the source distribution is incomplete
and so cannot be used to install from.  The problem is that the long
description markdown file is not included, leading to:

    FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'long-description.md'

Add a test script to check that the source distribution is usable; it
initially fails with the above error.  Then apply the fix provided by
@thatch in GitHub PR #3.

Include a COPYING file to summarise the copyright and licensing
situation for each file.
