Remove statusbar update timer (#538)

Apparently, for some unknown reason when the 'Running Python script' pops up and is being cancelled, theres a chance the KeyboardInterrupt will be thrown in the timer signal code instead. A simple solution is to remove this code, and potentially replace it with something that doesnt require periodic checks
