Fix BitField behaviour for fixed position fields

Previously BitField would fail to allocate hierarchical fields with
fixed position because it would allocate all fields simultaneously.
This is fixed by assigning all fields with fixed positions first and
only then assigning all remaining fields

Additionally, BitField can be subclassed and when called will return an
appropriate type.

Minor spelling fixes and changes to the tests.

Incorporates suggestions by @mossblaser.
