root: use ZLIB compression for compatibility with older ROOT versions

* ROOT versions v6.14/00 and v6.14/02 used default LZ4 compression.
* Files with LZ4 compression cannot be read by older ROOT releases.
* See: https://root.cern.ch/doc/v614/release-notes.html#important-notice
* Change compression algorithm to ZLIB for better future compatibility.
* Also pin matplotlib<3.0.0 in setup.py to fix "Read the Docs" build.
