Adds unit testing + a few improvements to gmx.go (#6)

* Adds a missing error log statement and modifies one log statement to conform with others like it.

* The beginnings of unit testing for gmx.go.

* Passes around Writers and Readers and maintenanceStates instead of using files and global vars to make testing easier.

* Adds more unit tests.

* Renames a couple variables in gmx.go. Adds few new unit tests to test for good requests, which brings up coverage to around 80%.

* Adds basic Travis-CI config file.

* Adds some missing dependencies to the Travis config.

* Uses io instead of bufio package to simplify.

* Adds a number of relatively small changes per PR feedback.
