Making gcc 4.6.3 happy

For some reason I still don't fully understand, gcc 4.6.3 was corrupting the
const Image & variables I was using inside these for-range loops; in
particular, the first element of their data was set to a different value
altogether (very close to 0) making the tests fail.

This new approach is gcc-4.6.3-compatible and also less verbose.
