Commit Message

Changed to work with items of any type.

Also refactored so root gets a sequence immediately, which makes
avoids special case of adding first item.

Also refactored reentrant function get_last_sequence() to be a while
loop.

Also optimised imports. And split sequence test case so compound
sequence has its own test case.
