ciao-image: Fix locking and DB connection handling

This commit defines a single DB open and DB close once the
Image service is shutdown.

It also makes fixes on locking operations in order to avoid
panics with lock / unlocks. Basically, make sure, you lock first,
then, unlock and not otherwise.

It contributes to #384
