feat: validate targets shape (#595)

* feat: add targets validation

* refactor: simplify validateTargets error messages

Collapse the not-found and wrong-shape checks into a single isObject test
per target, dropping the describeValue helper. Error messages no longer
report the resolved value's type; the target path is the actionable detail.
