test: simplify testProxyUrl

When the test was authored, assertion messages used to be too verbose
and confusing without context.

Nowadays, the built-in `node --test ./test.js` call prints the title of
the test that had run (declared with `it`) and prints the expected vs
actual result, which is sufficient to identify the failing test and
observe the difference between passing and failing test.

With this, we can simplify the `testProxyUrl` test helper, by removing
lines that are not reachable in practice (when all tests pass).
