chore: clean up and update Go module dependencies

**Added:**

- Added `gopkg.in/check.v1` as an indirect dependency in go.mod and go.sum

**Changed:**

- Upgraded `github.com/frankban/quicktest` to v1.14.6

**Removed:**

  - Other legacy and unused dependency entries from go.sum for a leaner dependency tree
