Release finalisation for 2.2

* Update reference to scores from italics to backticks
* Update pre-commit configuration to match CI/CD. This removes the mypy check, but aligns the tooling. Mypy will be re-introduced again after the release and made consistent across environments
* Update Release Notes (#871)
