refactor: replace custom JSON handling functions with go-pkgz/rest utilities

Replace custom writeJSON and sendErrorJSON functions with rest.RenderJSON and rest.SendErrorJSON from the go-pkgz/rest package. Also update routegroup to v1.4.1.
