Only verify channel state after goroutine leak detector

We should wait until all runnable goroutines have ended before checking
the state. This avoids the flaky tests which show a closed connection
in the state that is being cleaned up. If we do it as a post, it will
only run after the goroutine detector, which waits for all goroutines
to complete their work.
