Extract core classes to a separate subproject.

The idea is to allow these classes to be reused from a different
subproject, such as `snapshot`.

The alternative could be adding snapshot plugin directly into
`journal` subproject under a different package or having
`snapshot` subproject depend on `journal` subproject.
