enh(#34): Better dbg framework

- Break out former dbg framework into two plugins: one using modules (log4cl),
  and one which doesn't and is intended for bootstrap/bare metal
  environments (simple).

- Fix a few bugs which popped up when you run the unit tests with optimizations
  enabled.

- Add function attributes as suggested by compiler when optimizations enabled.
