[bfd][revert] This reverts the use of libbfd and restores execing 'nm'

Since Debian has forbidden dynamic linking with libbfd, and the use
of libbfd significantly reduced easy of building and portability
we had to revert the move to use libbfd, although it should, in
theory, be "the right thing to do" (tm)
