docs: refine README for improved formatting and readability

- Add structured project status metadata
- Capitalize section headings consistently (Title Case)
- Use GitHub NOTE callout for node deletion caveat
- Bold the volumeMode types in the numbered list for clarity
- Fix broken sentence in Overview (missing colon after 'supposed to be')
- Simplify double-spaced prose to single-spaced
- Normalize CI Results section naming
- Use dashes instead of asterisks for future features list
- Remove unused link references
- Fix minor grammar and punctuation throughout
