Clarify separators for non-existent directory paths (#1672)

Closes #1212.

Clarify that non-existent directory paths require a trailing
`os.PathSeparator`. Add a portable, runnable example showing the
difference between `dir` and `dirpath`.

The example lives at `_examples/dirpath/main.go`, following the review
request and the repository's standalone-example layout.

Checks:
- `go run ./_examples/dirpath`: outputs `true`, `false`, `false`,
`true`, matching the original executable example.
- `go test ./...`: passed, including all translation packages.
- `go vet ./... ./_examples/dirpath`: passed.
