chore: merge master's hotfixes back into develop

master picked up three commits directly: the classmethod fix for warning (also
already on develop, so the file merges identically), the Coveralls badge and
upload, and a README badge tweak. Only test_command_warning.py was not already
here, so that is the whole content of this merge.

Fold them back so master is an ancestor of develop again. This is the second
time tonight, both times caused by committing to master directly. The
sync-master job in publish.yml fast-forwards master to each release tag, and its
preflight refuses to release while the two have diverged.
