README: say why livemostrecent works; workers do write a placeholder

Workers inherit the gauge on fork and their first metric operation
writes a 0 with no timestamp into their own file. The master's set calls
carry a timestamp, and livemostrecent picks the newest, so the master
wins. Verified with a worker-side counter in the demo app.
