replace usage snippets with one compile-tested example

The README carried several disconnected snippets that were never built, so
they could drift from the API without anything noticing. They are replaced by
a single programme, tracked as examples/basic/main.go and embedded in the
README between markers, covering copy, checksum and both watcher variants.

readme_test.go compares the embedded block against the file, so the two cannot
diverge silently.
