Merge develop into main for 0.3.0 release

Brings the full release-readiness work into main. Conflicts resolved to
develop's versions:
- pyproject.toml: develop's (version 0.3.0, full packaging metadata, curated
  dependency list). Drops the stray runtime `pandas-stubs` dep that existed
  only on main — type stubs are a dev/typing concern, not a runtime dep.
- .gitignore: develop's (includes .claude and *.DS_Store).
