Simplify find_indices to use np.asarray instead of a manual array guard (#324)

Replace the isinstance/np.array guard in find_indices with np.asarray,
which returns an ndarray input unchanged (no copy) and converts sequences
otherwise, so behaviour is unchanged. Use a fresh local total_arr instead
of rebinding the total_set parameter to keep its declared type intact.

Closes #323
