test: cover resolver error and edge branches

Adds in-process unit tests for the failure and boundary paths that were only
exercised through the spawned binary (and thus uncounted): validate_source
rejections, is_already_magicked on unreadable paths, write/run guards, tier-3
jar resolution and its prefix-search fallback, expand_env edge cases, and
assignment/candidate parsing. Raises line coverage to ~99%.
