Return deprecated schema field hints directly (#2540)

* Return deprecated schema field hints directly

Pass the deprecated schema field hints directly via the validator class
rather than through the jsonschema logic.  The latter does not seem to
work correctly when deprecated fields are non-toplevel.

Fixes #2537
