refactor: extract validatePrincipal for extensibility to other principal types

Extract principal validation into a single validatePrincipal method
with a switch on principalType. Adding service user support in the
future is a single case addition here + adding the service dependency.

Introduces principalInfo struct to carry validated principal details
(ID, Type, Name, Email) to audit functions, removing the direct
user.User dependency from the audit path.
