* chore(deps-dev): bump chai to 6.x and chai-as-promised to 8.x

Upgrade chai (4.x → 6.x) and chai-as-promised (7.x → 8.x) together
since chai-as-promised 7.x has a peer dependency on chai < 5. Add ESM
interop fix for require() of the now ESM-only chai-as-promised.

Pin to the last CommonJS-compatible versions to maintain backward
compatibility with Node 14/16/18 in the test matrix. Chai 5+ and
chai-as-promised 8+ are ESM-only and cannot be required from CJS.
