Fix unit tests for typed parsers

Before this change, the test did not actually execute every code
path supposedly under test. For example, `i32::from(value32)` was
not called by any test code. However, this was difficult to see
because the unit tests invoked `From::from()`, which resolves to
a different function depending on type context.

After this change, the overall test coverage for this project
[increases](https://coveralls.io/builds/77642979) by 2.2%.
Also, the unit test is easier to understand because it is
clearer what functions are getting called.
