ci: no longer sync files from VMs to runners

and drop the kludges related to that.

By default the cross-platform action syncs files from runners to VMs and
vice versa:
https://github.com/cross-platform-actions/action/blob/492b0c800/readme.md?plain=1#L138.
The avahi CI doesn't use the files copied from VMs though so that part
can safely be dropped along with the kludges required to get around
issues like
