scheduler: acquire mutex when internal tests read node stats

The scheduler code has a mutex in its nodeStat structure.  The scheduler
code correctly acquires this ahead of accesses to the structure's data
elements, but test code was not.  Go -race popped a stack trace which
highlighted this bug in the test code.
