Making log likelihood computation less strict

Sometimes, estimators can create covariance matrices that are somewhat
ill-defined; not so badly that would cause a problem for the numpy operations
necessary, but scipy is a bit more strict, so we add a flag to loosen up scipy
requirements a bit.
