[WIP] MPI update (#328)

* adds a simple example using the MPI evaluator
* Make MPI work with WorkingDirectoryModels
* Code reorganization, moving mpi-specific code into a separate module
* Adds an initializer for mpi worker processes
* update to tests to cover new code
* update to docs and mpi tutorial to reflect updated code
