all: minor type tweaks

fmt alreacy calls String methods with the %s verb,
so we don't need to call them directly.

It's easier for a func to take a duration parameter
rather than a seconds integer which then needs to be converted.

Use path.Join and net/url rather than fmt.Sprintf to join with slashes.
