Do database introspections even if column type is specified

Introspections are always limited to specifications with 'table' given by
string (without database specifications).  Introspections were done for all
fields before, but got omitted at some point, probably acidentally, because of
the clutter in the relevant code.  This change will cause changes in field
properties in applications, but all these changes should be desirable.
