Write decorator that works for both functions and generators

This solves the real problem that 342b790 (unsuccessfully) tried to
solve. That commit actually introduced a problem where test generators
were not running at all. This was recently indicated by a drop in
coverage which inspired me to look into this further and produce this
commit.
