Replace uses of httr::content(req)

As per A.E.'s comment in review, and as suggested by ?httr::content

This commit modify `otl_parse` in base.R to be a general-purpose parser
for open tree returns, creating a list via fromJSON when the request
    contains json and plain text otherwise. This function is then used
    in API calls to where httr::content was previously.
