fix build caching of the simulator

The shadow plugin is interacting weirdly with the application plugin
when building the distribution archive. It somehow invalidates the
snapshot dependency and treats it as a different task input. Since
the shadow plugin is only used for jmh benchmarks, and the singular
benchmark was an experiment to validate a back-of-the-envelope
estimate, the simplest fix is to simply remove the build logic.
