Merge pull request #158 from wzairix/master

Fix KlocWork critical issues

Some function were returning null although this should not be possible by construction.
This was protected by an assert.
Nevertheless in release assert is deactivated and the code segfault instead.

Fix this by replacing `assert` by `abort`.
It should be noted that an `always_assert` should be used instead of `abort`.
