Commit Message

Revise docstrings to address warnings in the autodoc build process.

Main changes:
  - Use blank line before item lists.
  - Use code-block:: directive for code blocks.
  - Use r""" for docstrings that contain TeX backslashes (e.g., math stuff).
  - Avoid text patterns that could get interpreted as markdown definition lists.

Also make minor docstring tweaks (e.g., capitalization) in the neighborhood.
