spike: start integrating NewDimension as shim

* Replace Dimension objects with NewDimension objects in
  FrozenSlice._dimensions.
* Add empty insertions-transforms as new form of _use_insertions=False
  and try to get that working with FrozenSlice._insertions. My attempt
  triggered a handful of errors on exporter and it's late here and I'm
  out of gas so commented that out and made this commit.
* Made a couple naming adjustments while I was poking around, and
  changed dimension._subtotal calls to dimension.subtotal (the new
  version on NewDimension is public).

All the tests pass on both cube and exporter sides.
