populate_asset_years(): performance improvements

This uses bulk updates for a significant 
performance boost.

It also adds some logging for dates which cannot 
be handled as simply — for example, ranges:

Unexpected date format on item mss13375001: Wm. Oland Bourne Papers: Civil War reminiscences by soldiers and sailors in Central Park Hospital, New York, N.Y., 1864-1865: 1864 to 1865

Since year was a single value field for sorting,
I’m not sure whether the answer here is to extract
one value, make it ranged or multi-value, etc.
