improve compatibility between --grid and --interval (as well as with
--manual)
It is now possible to specify grid sizes such as --grid 5x0 or 0x25 or
0x0 (same behavior as not specifying --grid at all) when combined with
--interval or --manual. Grids with a zero component are supported ONLY
with those modes.
